Incredible venue and only made better by the host Thibault who was always on hand to offer expert tips and advice and also take some incredible photos. By no means an easy lake but the rewards are immense. Across three anglers we caught 13 fish with the average weight at 50lb. Everyone of us smashed PBs with the biggest coming in at nearly 60lb.
Thibault is great and the photos he captured are fantastic. Listen to his advice and you’ll catch. Looking forward to going back!
On arrival we was greeted by thiabault …he stayed with us a good hour giving us knowledge and tips on the lake …lake abyys is by far one of the most natural felt lakes ive ever fished on …from sunken stumps to snaggy areas all over the lake …we managed 12 runs between us and landed 7 ( x1 30 x 4 40s and x2 50s )…you will need to bolster up your line and tackle etc to increase the chances of landing the fish but the rewards are there to be had …this was my fav fish of the trip and thiabault was kind enough to come down and take some pics for us ( top man ) we are already planning our trip back…thankyou thiabault and thankyou majestic carp for a truly felt week in a paradise …see you soon
Amazing week at the abyss lake. Very tough snag fishing so be prepared to lose a few.
It’s hard to find the fish as they rarely show themselves. Take Thibault’s advice as he knows a lot about the lake.
He’s a top guy and will be on had whatever/whenever you need him.
We had a couple days of storms where it didn’t stop raining. As an idea for the owner, it would be good to add a roof to outside area so you could potentially sit outside when the down pours are around.
Bring your own dinnerware and wine glasses etc as it was a little lacking, but we had our own anyway so didn’t bother us.
Fishing :
Bring heavy leads, use Fluorocarbon straight through.
Due to the nature of the snags you do have to fish locked up so make sure you can lock your pod or rods down securely. Make sure you bring carp care as every fish we landed had battle wounds which were more than likely caused by the snags.
We had 9 runs, 5 landed:
60lb 6oz (lake common PB)
53lb
46lb 14oz
31lb 15oz
20lb 8oz
Overall mega week. Smashed my Common and Mirror PB’s. I highly recommend a trip to the abyss.
very enjoyable stay, all the comforts u could wish for, a beautiful lake rich in natural food so prepare plenty of bait for ur trip.. it was tough on our week but managed this 59 on the last evening, so never give up at any point.. we had a 5 bites landed 2, snag fishing at its finest so be prepared to fish locked up, and hold on tight.. lovely fishing and very intimate… 2 ppl max 3 for me…
Thib is also very helpful in all areas, even down to looking after ur frozen meat for the week.. topman.. and takes a banging picture
What can I say about Abyss lake, WOW! This is a beautiful place and so peaceful! The owner, Thibaut, is really nice & helpful, we had a great week and caught some lovely fish, would love to return to this gorgeous place
abyss is a stunning little venue with carp to match : we had the big common at 54 lb and the black and orange koi at 29 / personally the lake is perfect for 2 anglers as the fish only use certain areas : the owner was on hand and a very friendly guy 24/7 : thoroughly recomend it 🎣
Well where do I start this place is amazing, from the moment we pulled up to the gate we was welcomed in, the owner thibault was amazing he was there to help out when ever you need him he made sure our stay was as special as it could be. I would recommend this lake to anyone that is looking at fish a spectacular place from the fishing, stay and the wildlife. The wildlife at this lake is next to nothing everywhere you look or can hear there are all different kinds of things going on literally amazing in every way.
I would say that the abyss is good for 2 anglers max as you don’t have a lot of water to fish if there is any more we took 3 anglers there and it was a struggle other than that was the best weeks I’ve I’ve had in France for a long time. Thank you to thibault for an amazing week and we hope to see you again in the future
What can I say other than this is an amazing venue, Thiabault was so helpful, he gave us a guided tour and highlighted all the hot spots to fish. My van broke down and he even went out of his way to repair for me!! We will be returning
Thibault was very welcoming! Was always contactable on hand when needed and took some amazing photos for us! Unbelievable experience! It’s mine and my wife’s first fishing trip together and first time in France, with the wife catching 57lb common, 55lb mirror, many fish caught ranging from 27lb to the 57lb.
Clean and tidy place, no weed although their is snags which the fish like so need to fish on strong lines or be prepared to loose fish. Will visit again. Highly recommend!
Tricky but ultimately rewarding week at Abyss. Thibault was very helpful and friendly as all anglers have found. The lake is lovely, quiet andfull of snags but has little else in the way of features on the lake bed. We managed 7 fish and lost another 4. The average size of these fish was an extraordinary 42lbs.
By no means a runs water. Fish well to the snags and the rewards are there. Suggest 20lb fluorocarbon as most bites were at distance, so low stretch line a must.
Wish we had a fortnight instead of a week. Excellent.
What a week we had. The place is magnificent, the lake is peaceful and quiet and the cabin and facilities are spot on. Thibault is the man, he is one of the nicest people you can meet and he knows everything about fishing and the lakes (take his advice). He’s also always on hand to help with anything including great photos. 9 fish we had out up to 45lb with a couple lost. Bit of snag fishing so I would use fluoro straight through as no braid allowed. All in all a great place to be and fish and can’t wait to return. 👌
the lodge was clean and had everything you needed for your stay. Although a freezer at the lodge would be of help. The lake is very natural and a challenge to fish. Flying back leads and back leads are a must due to the amount of pike present. Pike strikes were a regular occurrence, and we were even getting runs off them on red krill wafters… we found dark baits to be less appealing to the pike. The weather was not in our favour, but we did manage a couple of carp to 32lb.
Thibault was very helpful and a pleasure to chat with . His English is very good too.
I can only describe our week on Abyss as being truly immersed in nature. An amazing location, reminiscent of an old English estate lake. The lake is surrounded by huge trees and is set well away from any busy roads, it’s so tranquil and relaxing! We would watch kingfishers everyday flying around across the water, buzzards circling above and owls calling through the nights, an extremely majestic place to spend our third week in France fishing 🇫🇷🎣
The fishing was a challenge, but very rewarding! 6 carp landed to 37lb+
For our week all the activity was between 1am-7am, we don’t usually fish during the nights on our trips but in order to outwit Abyss’s wiley residents, setting traps through the night was essential.
Last but not least, Thibaut the lake owner was a fantastic host.
His advice is crucial, even though I didn’t fully take it on board for the first 48 hours, I soon changed my approach once I put it into practice and began to catch 👌🏻 Anything we needed Thibaut was only a message away. Cabin was clean, perfect and had everything needed.
Would definitely recommend Abyss and we will be returning one day again to try and catch some more of the stunning stock of carp that reside here.
A really tough weeks fishing , with weather all over the place – extreme rain, 25° sunshine, winds etc. However we did manage 3 fish of 45, 35 & 28 (lbs) & lost a couple. All fish were in lovely condition.
Thibualt is an excellent host – ensuring we were both comfortable & providing essential tips/knowledge on the lake. As other reviews mention, pay close attention even if it isn’t how you would fish back home !
What a weeks fishing we had at abyss we had a week full of 30 40 and 50lbers 55.10 being the biggest common I had don’t get me wrong we had to work for it hand placing rigs from the boat all around the lake in different spots but the hard work paid off the lake is just amazing it’s full of snags so plenty of cover for the carp there’s hard spots to fish to and a lot of silty spots so plenty of options to fish to and tbo is a legend can do enough to help with anything you ask him and his knowledge of the lake is not to be ignored the cabin has every you need down to beds a massive fridge gas hobs nice hot shower heater the and toilet is just behind the cabin this is the best/my favourite lake I have ever fish and I will be returning for multiple trips in the future and as much as I would love to leave a bad review to stop other people going and fishing 😂 I just can’t praise this place and the owner tbo enough 10/10 from me
This was our best trip to France to date and The Abyss is nothing short of paradise. Having never caught a 40lb carp in the hundred years that I have been carp fishing it was again, my target weight. On our arrival we were met and shown around by Tebo and every aspect of our stay was covered. From where and how to fish to where to watch the rugby world cup. The whole week Tebo went seriously out of his way to help us and was a big part of the success of the week. I not only caught my first 40 but caught six! The biggest being just under 47lb. With three thirties and a little scaley I was totally stunned by the session that I had had and would be very supprised if I ever have such a rewarding week. The cabin is just divine and so very comfortable although the walk to the toilet is the reason for not awarding five stars. The bed was super comfortable and was close enough to the rods to use. You can pretty much fish the whole lake safetly from the pontoon which is huge and makes everything easy. I would highly recommend using a bait boat but it isn’t a necessity. My wife and I took plenty of time out to visit the local amenities which are so very convenient. All in all we had an absolute stunning week and will return as soon as we can! Big thank you to Tebo & Majestic! ❤️
The cabin was really nice and had everything we needed for the week. It gave good opportunity to fish most of the lake from that one swim. Within our catches we had 3 fish above 40lbs with the biggest being 44lbs. All the fish were in great condition. We had one koi/mirror hybrid at 30lbs. All together a challenging weeks fishing but very rewarding in the end.
A fantastic beautiful picturesque lake with some amazing beautiful residents.
Due to the sudden change in weather conditions & being faced with Temperatures upto 34 degrees, the fishing was really challenging but we managed to catch some wonderful Abyss carp with some hard work & a few tweaks to the methods.
28lb 14oz cracking moon scale mirror, 30lb mirror, 40lb mirror & a last minute 42lb 8oz Mirror
Amazing holiday & would love to go back.
Thanks to Thibault & Camille & of course MAJESTIC, Thankyou we hope to book another camp fishing holiday soon.
